SouthWest USA 2008 - part 1/3
GPS trail of our trip
I had not been to my favourite desert hiking destination of 'CanyonLands: the needle district' since 2004, so I convinced my long time filmmaker friend Mark to join me. Armed with camcorders, cameras, GPS and PC tablet, camping gear, tent, we were far more equipped than I ever had been. Vegas was the usual flight hub, and hi-tailing it out of that insanity of a place with a Dodge Caliber which we would soon come to dislike, our 9 day trip began in earnest.
A Cairn: indispensable to follow a trail
Our first stop was the photo rich Bryce Canyon - you can point a camera in any direction without looking and you've got a decent pic. April is a good time as snow still hugs the slopes, but at 8 to 9000 feet, it's below freezing at night in your tent.
I practised levitation and got quite good at it after a while - it's all in the wrists.
Mark is missing the danger gene that I have in droves; I often had to watch him risk his neck and snap pictures *just in case*. These long shots are really nice, and part of one was used for the background of this web page.
*Rent* a horse or mule in Bryce, or enjoy their stench and stepping in their manure.
